2019.09.20 - Spent the Day in Boise
09.20.2019 - Originally, we were going to spend the day taking a day trip out of Boise to McCall, ID via the Payette River Scenic Byway. After checking it out, however, it was going to be a 6-7 hour trip in the motorhome and that was looking way too long. We decided, instead just to hang around the area and see Boise, 35-miles to the east. Our "not-the-most-friendly" neighbors had pulled out early, leaving us pretty much alone and there was no rush to get going.

After a leisurely breakfast, we headed north across the Snake River to Homedale, then turned east towards Boise. While passing thru the town of Meridian on I-84, we saw an exit sign for the town of Kuna about 10-miles to the south and visiting Kuna for a specific "photo-op" was actually on our list of things to do. Why Kuna?
In 2006, the Marinkovich, Watson, Cavanna and Stout clans all traveled to Croatia to see where Rene's father, Nick, had grown up. The currence of Croatia was the "Kuna". It wasn't long before everyone was routinely referring to any denomination of cash as Kuna (even after we returned home). Because purchasing and maintaining a motorhome often turns into more of an expense that might be realized, we christed ours as "Kuna Pit" ("Money Pit" in the American translation).
When we were planning the overall trip, we were surprised that there was actually a town near Boise named Kuna, so taking a photo of Kuna Pit in Kuna made the list of things to do while in Boise. It took a little bit of searching to actually find the town, but we did and the photo below will proove it.
Kuna Pit meets the town of Kuna
It was a nice town with a small, old-fashioned downtown. Kind of reminded us of old town Loomis, maybe just a little bit bigger. John was going to stop at the Kuna Chamber of Commerce (right behind the town's welcome sign) to ask the origin of the name, but the turn was too tight to make. We're pretty sure, however, that the founding fathers/mothers of Kuna probably didn't have Croatian currency in mind when they decided on the name.
The rest of the day involved a stop for lunch and visits to Target and Walmart to stock up on a few needed items. We were going to check out downtown, but it was geting on towards late afternoon, so we headed back to Homedale, getting a taste of Boise's traffic on the way.
Tomorrow, we head back towards Boise, then turn north thru the Sawtooth National Forest towards Stanley, ID. In the meantime, it's our last night on the Snake River.
