Fallen Leaf Lake - South Lake Tahoe
September means the annual Swinerton Sacramento Division Campout - 3 days (for us it's 5-days) of camping as a group at Fallen Leaf lake. This year represents our third year and biggest group yet - over 200 campers.
The weekend started with an "early-bird" street taco feed on Thursday night hosted by the Stouts/Lehmanns. Lot's of good eats and drinks, but no fire - too windy, so campfires were forbidden.
Friday was set-up day, time to go shopping for food to feed 200 for three days and general check-in for co-workers who couldn't make it up earlier. Friday night was hamburgers & hot dogs and singing around the "propane" campfire ("real" campfires still not allowed).
Saturday started with a full breakfast for 200, followed by the group photo in the spitting rain.
Kayak racing planned for the day was cancelled due to windy and white-cap conditions on Fallen Leaf Lake. Rene' & I joined the Lehmanns for a trip to the Tallac Historic Site across from the campground. A century ago, the area was considered "The Grandest Resort" in the world and was the playground for the rich and famous.

The main event for the annual Swinerton Campout is the Saturday night BBQ Dinner followed by music and smores around the campfire (or this year, the propane fire). BBQ's are fired up around 4pm in preparation to feed all the campers. This year, John volunteered as a member of the BBQ team and was thoroughly smoked after grilling tri-tip and chicken - enough to feed an army.

On Sunday morning, we helped with the group camp clean-up and packing of gear. By noon, the campground was quiet so on Sunday afternoon, Kuna Pit was a designated "napping house". South Lake Tahoe residents, Gary and Terry came by for a dinner of "camp-out left-overs".

Terry - "Come on, Rene' - it's easy to get down here."
Rene", "No thanks, I'm fine right where I'm at."
On Monday morning, G&T gave us a ride to the local grocery store to stock up on missing essentials followed by an afternoon ride thru the beautiful Hope Valley, up to Caples Lake, then down to Gardnerville/Minden and Genoa. We returned to South Lake Tahoe and finished the day with a nice Italian dinner at Teps Villa Roma.
This morning (Tuesday), it was off to Winnemucca via Carson City, Reno and I-80 East. The adventure continues tomorrow as we head north into Oregon headed for the Boise area in Idaho.
Settled in at the New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, NV
